San Luis Obispo Estate Planning Attorneys

Charron O'Neill and Janet M. O'Neill limit their San Luis Obispo, California, law practice to estate planning and administration. Whether your matter involves the preparation of Wills, trusts, financial powers of attorney, advanced health care directives, reducing or eliminating gift and Estate taxes we are here to help you. We provide assistance to families after a death including probate, trust administration and termination and asset transfers. Charron and Janet work with families who have relatives or friends with special needs by drafting special needs trusts and handling conservatorships of those with special needs.

The other day a client said to me... "God knows you can't take it with you so why is it so hard to leave it behind." This was said after she had to deal with a death of a family member who had no estate planning when he died.

Our goal is to build a lasting relationship with clients and their families. We want to be the resource that you and your family can rely on whenever you need legal advice and representation in the areas of estate planning, trusts, and probate.

We have many years of experience. You and your children's children can rely on us for the same support year after year. We have made our firm a multi generational one and we want to represent you and your family for years to come.

We offer free consultations for estate planning in order to give you the alternatives that specifically fit your circumstances. We want you to be informed of your choices before you commit to anything.

We prepare customized plans for our clients with the goal of making certain that their estate passes according to their wishes, and is managed by the people that they want to handle it... all with the least amount of expense and taxes.

We believe that giving someone the authority to make your medical decisions is so important that we include those documents in our client's estate plan at no charge.

A client or a member of a client's family may have a disability or have special needs. Proper planning for the lifetime financial and personal care for this person may be a daunting task. Public benefits may be in jeopardy if there is no properly designed and administered trust. Many times a conservatorship proceeding may be required - such as for an adult child with a developmental disability. We can help you understand the alternatives available to you and provide the planning so that you can be comfortable that the needs of you and your family have been taken care of.

Even though a person may not have a trust, there may still be ways to avoid the court probate process. There are times when the assets of a person who dies with or without a Will, can be transferred according to his or her wishes without a court probate process. We will meet with you at no charge, evaluate your circumstances, and then tell you if probate can be avoided.

You are not committed to retain us. However, we would be happy to work with you. For more than 35 years, our office has been working with families who have lost a loved one. We understand that you may be asked to make legal decisions during a very stressful time... while you are grieving the loss of a loved one. Our goal is to make the legal process as easy as possible for each family and relieve as much of that stress as possible.

This is all that Charron and Janet do they work with families planning their estates and with families after the death of a loved one. Both Charron and Janet were born in San Luis Obispo and have lived here most of their lives. Charron's father, and Janet's grandfather, was a local attorney and Judge. Charron and Janet are fourth and fifth generation born San Luis Obispo.

Our office is located in downtown San Luis Obispo but we also visit clients at home, in care facilities and in the hospital. We also provide assistance to clients who live out of our community.
